Hard Rock & Water
Award-winning
writer Lisa Moore embarks on a quest to discover the essence
of nationhood. Sixty years ago Iceland and Newfoundland were
both desperately poor places. Then in a bold move Iceland
separated from Denmark in 1944. Five years later Newfoundland
voluntarily gave up its nationhood and joined Canada. Both
countries at a crossroads chose very different routes and
landed in very different places. Features interviews with
comedian Mary Walsh, former Icelandic President Vigdis Finnbogadottir,
and others – all set against the raw splendour of these
two North Atlantic islands.
